Job Description

Position Overview:
The Communications Coordinator will support Upper Albany Main Street (UAMS) by developing and managing communication strategies that strengthen the organization’s visibility, promote programs, and engage the community. This unpaid position offers valuable experience in marketing, public relations, and nonprofit communications while contributing to the mission of empowering small businesses and revitalizing Hartford’s Upper Albany community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage UAMS’ social media presence across platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) through consistent posting, engagement, and community interaction.
  • Develop creative, mission-aligned content such as graphics, stories, and videos to highlight organizational programs, events, and success stories.
  • Assist in designing and producing marketing and promotional materials, including flyers, newsletters, press releases, and event announcements.
  • Support website updates and online content management to ensure consistent branding and messaging.
  • Monitor local news and share relevant articles or media coverage that align with UAMS initiatives.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop internal and external communication strategies for ongoing projects and campaigns.
  • Maintain relationships with community partners, media outlets, and local agencies to promote UAMS events and initiatives.
  • Track engagement analytics and compile reports to evaluate communication effectiveness and reach.

Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience or interest in social media management, marketing, public relations, or communications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express, or similar platforms).
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content scheduling practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented, creative, and self-motivated.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field preferred (not required).
