Job Description

Upper Albany Main Street is seeking a creative and motivated Instructional Designer to support the development of the Digital & Technology Hub including a Learning Management System (LMS) tailored for small business owners. This role requires a strong background in instructional design, and hands-on experience with WordPress and the LearnDash LMS platform. The successful candidate will design engaging, practical, and impactful online learning experiences that align with the organization’s mission to empower entrepreneurs and foster economic development.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, knowledgeable, resourceful, and able to research and develop high-quality content. This includes developing course modules, interactive content, multimedia resources, and assessments that provide small business owners with the tools and knowledge to succeed.

This position is 100% grant-funded contingent upon annual renewal of external funding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Needs Analysis: Assess the training requirements of small business owners and the organization’s program goals to define the scope, objectives, and learning outcomes of the programs.
  • Curriculum Development: Design and develop structured, engaging, and effective curriculums, lesson plans, and learning objectives for diverse audiences.
  • Content Creation: Produce a variety of instructional materials such as online courses, video tutorials, quizzes, job aids, and other multimedia-based resources using authoring tools and design software.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) and program staff to ensure content accuracy, relevance, and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Assessment Design: Develop tailored assessments, knowledge checks, and evaluation tools to measure learner progress and the effectiveness of training programs.
  • Technology Integration: Apply instructional design models and utilize LMS functionality, including LearnDash, to deliver high-quality online training modules.
  • Evaluation and Feedback: Collect and analyze learner feedback and performance data to continuously improve course design, delivery, and learning outcomes.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency with WordPress and the LearnDash LMS platform.
  • Strong instructional design skills with demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional models.
  • Experience with eLearning authoring tools, multimedia development (video, audio, graphics), and content management.
  • Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills for collaborating with colleagues and facilitating effective learning.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and navigate workflow and matrix management. Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Adaptability: Commitment to staying up-to-date with new educational developments, technologies, and learning design trends.
