The HUSKY 4 Immigrants (H4I) Coalition is a statewide coalition fighting to expand HUSKY Health (Medicaid & CHIP) to all CT residents who are income-eligible, regardless of their immigration status through grassroots and legislative advocacy. We are immigrant-led and immigrant-centered, working in coalition with partners across the state to build community power and eliminate systematic barriers to healthcare. The HUSKY for Immigrants Campaign took off in 2019 and since then we’ve been a vibrant coalition that has made our communities voices’ heard around the state! For 3 consecutive years, we had wins at the state legislature – winning HUSKY Health access for undocumented kids under 15 and undocumented pregnant and postpartum people.
The coalition is composed of immigrants rights organizers, healthcare advocacy organizers, community leaders, healthcare providers, faith leaders and unions fighting for access to healthcare and health coverage for Connecticut’s (CT) immigrant population. Coalition members include: CT Students for a Dream; Universal Health Care Foundation of Connecticut; The Semilla Collective; Make the Road CT (MRCT), Hartford Deportation Defense, CT Citizens Action Group; CT Working Families Party; Planned Parenthood Votes! CT, She Leads Justice, CT Worker Center, United Action CT, Health Equity Solutions, Building One Community, Haven Free Clinic, Comunidades Sin Fronteras, CT Health Foundation, Connecticut For All, CT Oral Health Initiative, Greater Hartford Interfaith Action Alliance, Integrated Refugees & Immigrant Services (IRIS), Nosotr@s Stamford, Reproductive Equity Now, Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Westport, Yale Workers and Immigrant Rights Clinic, among other organizations.
