Closing The Digital Divide

Our three-level digital literacy training program is offered to businesses who are operating in the Upper Albany neighborhood of Hartford.  Upon completing the digital phase, a laptop will be awarded as a milestone achievement.  The second phase of the program requires businesses to complete a business solutions training through SHEBA Resource Center.  Upon completion, a $15,000 grant award will be given to the successful business owners.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is offered in the digital literacy training classes?

During the training course, you will learn three stages of using a computer:

  • Basic computer skills (learn the basics of using a computer, browsing the internet, and using a mouse / keyboard).
  • Software (learn how to use important software applications, like Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Hardware (master your understanding of computer hardware, input devices, and more)

These interactive training courses are taught by certified NorthStar Instructors who are ready to guide you to success.

Businesses must meet certain criteria in order to participate in the training classes

  1. Business must be located in the Upper Albany neighborhood of Hartford.
  2. Must be current on all tax obligations owed to the City of Hartford.
  3. Must not have participated in a NorthStar digital literacy training program in the past.

Digital literacy training classes are held on Wednesday’s during the following times:

  • Wednesdays:  10:00 am – 12:00 pm
  • Wednesdays: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
  • Wednesdays:  5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
