Website Learning Lab

Website security is not a one-time task—it requires regular attention. Updating software is one of the simplest and most effective habits. Updates often include fixes for security problems that hackers could otherwise exploit.

Backups are another critical habit. A backup is a saved copy of the website that can be restored if something goes wrong. If a site is hacked or broken, a backup can save time, money, and stress.

Limiting access also improves security. Only trusted users should have administrator access, and accounts that are no longer needed should be removed. Logging out of shared computers and monitoring login activity helps prevent unauthorized access and keeps the website safe over time.

Do This Regularly:

✔ Update your website software
✔ Back up your website
✔ Use 2FA for admins
✔ Limit admin accounts
✔ Log out on shared computers

End-of-Module Summary

Strong passwords, Two-Factor Authentication, security tools, and good habits all work together to reduce risk. By understanding these basics, anyone—no matter their technical skill level—can take meaningful steps to protect their website and online accounts.
